Abstract

This editorial takes a stand against the patronizing representation of working children in a music video released by Kids United, a French band of child performers associated with multinational entertainment companies. It highlights the contradiction of child performers advocating against child labour while being part of an industry that depends on their participation. Instead of targeting the elimination of all child labour, which is unrealistic, interventions and campaigns should focus on children’s overall well-being and development and protect their rights in work across various economic sectors including not only the music industry but also farming, sales, craftsmanship or care work.
