Three aspects of the photochemistry of α,β-unsaturated cyclic ketones are discussed: reactions from and configurational assignments to excited triplets in cases where two such states are reactive, then the analysis of a stepwise rearrangement mechanism, and finally the dependence of stereoelectronically controlled versus dissociative rearrangement paths in secondary reactions on the initially excited singlet transition and on the temperature.
