Abstract

7,7-Dichloro-2,5-diphenylbenzocyclopropene (1) undergoes exchange with silver fluoride under mild conditions to yield 7,7-difluoro-2,5-diphenylbenzocyclopropene (2) ; a substituted benzocyclopropenium ion (3) is proposed as an intermediate of the reaction.
