This chapter discusses how the institutional rules of the Swiss political systems (e.g., direct democracy, federalism, militia Parliament, collegial government) matter along the four main phases of the policy cycle: agenda setting, formulation, implementation, and evaluation. It is richly illustrated by recent empirical studies covering different policy domains and using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
