Despite all the efforts and advancements in the prevention of dental caries, it remains the most prevalent chronic disease in moderate, low, and high-income countries [1], with untreated carious permanent teeth being the most common health condition globally in 2010 [2]. The increased use of fluoride and fissure sealants in the prevention of dental caries especially in high-income developed countries shifted the progression rate of the disease from being a rapid childhood disease to a slow-progressing adulthood disease, thereby increasing the number of non-cavitated lesions.
