Therapeutic patient education (TPE) has been developed to deal with chronic diseases. Pedagogical models centered on the patients have allowed them to better understand and treat their disease. However, knowledge is necessary but it is not sufficient. In a second step, psychological models have supported the patient to live better, to accept the unacceptable disease. TPE help us to arouse patients’ motivation, seek a better quality of life and a regained autonomy. This article proposes a 3rd generation therapeutic patient education which leads us to a great reflection: what does motivate patients to care about themselves? What is the purpose of our life? What are our values? Could a 3rd generation therapeutic patient education make us grow? With “the casita of resources” and together with patients, we seek their resources to improve their self-esteem, to accompany them in the strength of their values, give a purpose to their life and to their path. To heal, it is necessary to be kind to oneself to keep an identity despite the disease, “otherwise, we risk being next to ourselves”.
