Electrophilic Catalysis in lodosylbenzene Oxidation of Aromatic Derivatives

Abstract

The oxidation of activated aromatic compounds (phenols and hydroquinones) is cacalyzed by BF3 or RuCl2(PPh3)3. The catalytic effect of the ruthenium is ascribed to electrophilic catalysis, due to complexation between iodosylbenzene and the Ru species, in analogy to the effect of BF3.
