This research questions the economic policies implemented during the Pandemic. The outbreak of

the COVID-19 surprised everyone all around the world, changed the way we live and is still

changing. In the first part, an economic and financial outlook is provided for the EU/EA and US to

realize the macroeconomics and macro-financial pre-conditions of the crisis. In a second part, this

research takes roots from the Great Financial Crisis and economic policies implemented during this

financial crisis. The objective is to question and focus on the lessons learnt from past crises,

especially the Great Recession to understand present economic policies. The third part describes

how the Pandemic hurt in an unprecedented way the economic and financial markets. A fourth and

more analytical part focuses on describing the monetary and fiscal policies implemented by the

European and the American authorities to recover from this crisis and protect their citizens. In a

comparative approach fashioned by the New Keynesian framework, the paper provides insights on

how policies are conceived and divergent they are regarding the EU/EA and the US. This research

aims to contribute to the economic debate on policies that should be implemented during a crisis

such as a pandemic.
