Abstract

This review addresses the recent emergence in the literature of a putative factor called endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF). The EDHF is characterized by the fact that it is emitted from the endothelium and hyperpolarizes the arterial smooth muscles. In this review, we respect this definition and use the term EDHF without a priori describing its chemical and physical nature.
