The palynological examination of 4 samples from the "Grès et marnes gris à gypse" collected in the section of la Morges (Western Switzerland) (KISSLING,1974) showed that this formation is equivalent of the vertebrate "zone" of Cournon, wich is just above the Stampian-Upper Oligocene limit defined palynologically in the basin of Grande Limagne (Massif central, France) (GORIN, 1974). Those results lower the age proposed by KISSLING (1974) which was exclusively based on vertebrate evidence. It is suggested to use preferably palynological and not vertebrate data for the pupose of zonation and correlation.
