A computing method applied to palinologically rich samples using a palynologic stratigraphic reference scale permits to place the samples in a relative time scale. The results are then introduced to refine the reference scale. The computer program, written in FORTRAN IV, is designed to handle binary data and uses a matching coefficient. The output consists of two diagrams for each sample : the first shows the stratigraphic extension of all species found in the sample, and the second represents a graph of matching coefficients between the sample and each subdivision of the reference scale.
