Between Vanoise (France) and Susa valley (Italy), three sets of units of "Schistes lustrés» are distinguished. The two lower ones, born of the European palaeo-margin for the lowest, and to the palaeo-oceanic realm for the other, comprise detrital partly ophiolitic sequences of early late cretaceous age. The better known unit of the upper one is esclusively made up of terrigenous metasediments of very late cretaceous age. The late Cretaceous deposits are probably the sedimentary consequences of two paleo-tectonic stages concerning the internal alpine realms at the middle of the Cretaceous and during late Cretaceous.
