Abstract

Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), developed by Rudolf Laban, is a well-known coding system to describe, visualize, interpret, and document human movement in 4 major factors: Body, Shape, Effort and Space. Another method is Kinematic Analysis, showing which specific aspects of movement are affected by an emotion by providing higher resolution descriptions of movement qualities. Within the Kinematic Analysis, this study focuses on Inver Kinematics which is used to regulate the motion of a robot or computer graphics to get to the expected position. Inver Kinematics is widely used in different fields including computer games and education. However, there are less studies describing the kinematics of emotionally expressed movements when only a few joints are measured. Many laboratories cannot afford or deploy in certain experimental contexts high-resolution motion tracking systems due to the cost which is proportionate to the resolution. Assessing the minimal number of joint measurements necessary to obtain satisfactory emotion recognition performance is thus warranted.
