Contemporary world is marked with the increasing presence of goods and things, techniques and artefacts; all of these seemingly ordinary, obvious and neutral. However, this modernity is rarely questioned from the perspective of women and men who live it. Why indeed should we attribute intentions to things ? They contribute to our lives, fulfil our needs, alleviate us from a lot of tasks. Questioning the neutrality of techniques is however a good way to question social gender relations : why are women lastingly excluded from some technical domains ?; what power is provided through the mastery of techniques ?; what are the symbolic and political stakes to the mastery of techniques; how do techniques contribute to the arrangement of social, but also gender relations? Through a series of historical and contemporary examples-in the playground, in school, at work-this book explores the multiple ways in which sexual and technical identities are closely intertwined and question the emergence of new kinds of relationships between beings and things.
