Density corrections in gamma spectrometry of lake sediments

Abstract

The results of investigations on the influence of sample density on the total counting efficiency coefficient in γ-ray spectrometry of lake sediments are presented. The data suggest the need to improve the density correction in activity calculations for ²³⁴Th. Application of the corrections for other isotopes depends on several parameters such as: sample activities, range of sample densities, counting time, calibration errors, etc.
