Software Information Systems: A Software Community Perspective

Abstract

This paper examines the rationale for using an information system as the basis for software development and dissemination within a software community. A large set of requirements for such software information systems are discussed. Several existing approaches to information management - information retrieval, hypertext, databases, and knowledge bases - are examined in the light of these requirements. This leads to a proposal for developing software information systems that merges existing information management techniques with a set of extensions derived for the software
