This paper outlines a series of sophisticated message services which are based on an object-oriented environment. Messages are treated as active objects with their own rules. They are exchanged between user roles incorporating user attitudes and local conditions. Negotiations through active messages are outlined. Finally, dynamic addressing through cooperating name servers is discussed.
