Multimedia messages are a natural extension of textual messages. Multimedia objects are intelligent or active multimedia messages. They have a wide diversity of applications including electronic messaging systems, software engineering, and computer animation. We outline the potential impact of multimedia objects on these areas and describe our plans for an object-oriented implementation, a temporal specification language, and a motion specification language.
