Known only from administrative sources since the Middle Kingdom, the lexeme ḥbs.yt indicates a relationship of dependency between a woman and a man. It is found on several funerary objects belonging to women from the Third Intermediate Period. Since their marital status is not indicated on their monuments, it is necessary to better define the meaning of this term in order to understand the reasons for its usage in expressing female identity from the Libyan period.
