REE behaviour in the Kizil Dağ ophiolitic rocks (Hatay, Turkey)

Abstract

The Kizil Dağ ophiolitic massif represents a complete but very moderately dismembered sequence comprising tectonites, ultramafic and mafic cumulate gabbros, a sheeted dyke complex, pillow lavas, plagiogranites and a complex sedimentary cover. REE patterns from the gabbros, diabases and plagiogranites allow the study of the relationships between the various terms of this ophiolite. Coryell diagrams show a general tendency to light REE depletion. Ultramafic cumulates do not show any variation. General enrichment is progressively growing between mafic cumulates and diabases. Associated plagiogranites show patterns very similar to those of the other terms of the sequence. This behaviour is comparable to that described in many other ophiolites showing partial fractionation trends. All rocks of the main Kizil Dağ massif have to be considered cogenetic.
