Abstract

The authors describe various rock members of an ophiolite suit including harzburgites, pyroxenites, serpentinites, gabbros, dolerites and pillow lavas as well as amphibolites. Potassium-Argon ages have been determined on these rooks. The influence of the metamorphism makes the interpretation difficult. The geological history of the area can be summarized as follows : Before the «ophiolitic event», pelitic and detritic metasediments should have formed microcontinents belonging to the Anatolian Plate. During the «Ophiolitic event» of the area, the differentiated parts of the ocean floor and upper mantle have been mixed with the metasedirnents due to the compression and the subduction effects.
