Through the lens of memory approaches, this dissertation examines the role of the second letter to Timothy (2 Tim) as an epistolary farewell address within the Pauline corpus. It aims to demonstrate that the literary genre and content of the letter provide a hermeneutical key for reading and diffusing the seven so-called proto-Pauline letters (Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians, Philippians) and the letter to the Colossians as Paul's legacy. Its main distinctiveness lies in the specific consideration of 2 Tim within a Pauline collection and not only in the corpus of the Pastorals (1 and 2 Timothy, Titus). The thesis is organized in three parts: 1) historical and methodological milestones; 2) memorial analysis of 2 Tim; 3) an investigation of three Pauline “realms of memory” in 2 Tim: characters, geographical locations and Paul's letters.
