Neurological injuries are still a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among critically ill children needing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support (ECMO). The objective of this manuscript is to review the state of knowledge on the epidemiology and risk factors for neurological injuries during ECMO support in children from a clinical standpoint and to discuss research and quality improvement perspectives.
