A tectonic study of the faults in the Arakapas zone shows that successive phases of extensional and then, strike-slip faulting played an important role in controlling the distribution of lavas. Despite close analogies between the ophiolitic massifs of Cyprus and Oman several differences exist in detail, notable in their mode of formation and emplacement.
