Abstract

Following Gilles Deleuze's model of the baroque, this paper examines the figure of “the fold” as an aesthetic category relevant to modern art and literature. In particular, it proposes the fold as a means of reading Finnegans Wake. Joyce's work is read as an attempt to capture the being of language prior to its unfolding and codification in the discourses of knowledge and other subjectivizing forces.
