A survey of the earth's magnetic field is presently in progress in Switzerland. From the data so far collected, profiles of the geomagnetic elements on the line from Basel to Chiasso have been derived. The graphs presented show the expected global trend, as well as the large and known anomaly of Locarno. The data also show some oscillations to the north. At Bignasco the field elements appear to deviate in the same direction as at Locarno. More significant, however, is the anomaly in the Furka Pass region, which shows up clearly on the geomagnetic maps that will be published shortly.
