Abstract

The granulometric study of eight piston cores coming from an eutrophic lake (Morat, Switzerland) shows that the mean grain size of the sediments (silty carbonates) decreases strongly from top to bottom in the first decimeters. This evolution is due to progressive leaching of calcite precipitated cristals as proved by scanning electron micrographs. This process is related to diagenesis of organic matter under reducing conditions.
