Palaeomagnetic dating of 1-metre cores of sediment from Lake Geneva

Abstract

A palaeomagnetic study of a collection of 1-m mini-cores from Lake Geneva has shown that these rather uncompacted near-surface sediments carry a record of recent geomagnetic declination variations back to about 400 years ago. The results correlate well with a curve constructed from historic and archaeomagnetic declination data.
