It has often been said of Abelard's Hymnary of the Paraclete to witness an exceptionally original versification. This contribution examines both the structure of the verse and of the stanza of Abelard's Latin, rhythmic poetry in order to definite them and to situate them in the wider context of the mediaeval poetry, mainly liturgical. This leads to draw out a better understanding of the Hymnary as a unique testimony of the rhythmic verse as well as within its liturgical inspiration, and reveals some previously unknown hints of its circulation outside the Paraclete.
