Attention difficulties and their consequences are often studied in clinical populations, among children and adults. Several studies on ADHD have found these subjects to be impaired in emotion recognition and emotion regulation but inconsistencies in these researches are noted. The aim of the present research was to investigate the relationship between self-reported atten-tion difficulties, emotion recognition and emotion regulation, among adolescents, relationships which seem to still remain unidentified. A community sample of adolescents completed a ques-tionnaire for the self-report of attention difficulties, an audio-visual task for the assessment of emotion recognition and a questionnaire assessing the use of cognitive emotion regulation strat-egies. Results show that although attention difficulties were not found to be related to the gen-eral ability to recognise emotions, they were linked to recognition of anxiety and fear as well as higher use of maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies, self-blame in particular.
