This with the aim to retrace the evolution of Salento Geometric fine ware from its origins during South Italian Protogeometric to Salento Middle and Late Geometric 1, from 1150 to 690/680 BC. Fine ware includes matt-painted, plain-ware and doliums. The materials are from I Fani, Vaste, Otranto and Lipari. They represent 10% of excavation ceramic remains. This research develops a new consolidated typology, a clear definition of SLG 1 and strengthens the matt-painted “captor” agility to integrate features from Mycenaean, Protovillanovian, North-West Group and Greek Geometric pottery. Using barycentre and cross-dating approaches, we were able to revise the chronology to the short Greek "precolonial" phase, with a hard stop transition from SLG 1 to 2 at Early Protocorinthian around 720/700 BC. XRF, LA-ICPMS and PIXE-PIGME analysis have been conducted by E.G.D. Robinson and suggest cultural systems with complex commodities exchange networks and local consumption rituals, beside Mycenaean and Greek symposium practices.
