Counter-stereotypical information and senior moment: two ways of striving against prejudice-based judgments of older targets ?

Abstract

This study uses the Stereotype Content Model to examine if counter-stereotypical information is processed when evaluating perceived capacities, frequency and motivation of older targets cognitive activities (Motivation for Cognitive Activities Questionnaire; Vallet, Schlemmer, Beaudoin, & Desrichard, 2018). Additionally, we tried to reduce negative judgments towards the elderly through a “Senior Moment”, a projection of one's self into the future. By means of a first study, we showed that changing the content of stereotypes led to differentiated judgments but only because our measure applied two different mindsets separately (a young or older mindset)...
