Abstract

Western world is experiencing a significant rise in obesity over the last decades. In the UK, 2% of men and 4% of women are reported to have a BMI of equal or more than 40 kg/m2 (1), which represent a threefold increase in a 25-year period. Statistics from the US depict an even more worrying picture. The Centre for Disease control demonstrated that 35% of adults and 17% of children are affected by obesity, in an effort to control and prevent the so called "obesity epidemic" (2).
