Philosophy of quantum gravity as a philosophy of discovery

Defense date2019-12-10
Abstract

This thesis identifies, surveys and analyses strategies for the construction of a theory of quantum gravity which are not directly based on taking into account empirical data. The need for such strategies arises naturally, as the relevant quantum regime for gravity lies roughly fifteen orders of magnitude higher than of what can be currently accessed at the state-of-the art particle collider at CERN. The overall aim of this undertaking then is to provide an enhanced understanding of these strategies.
