Abstract

The current transport and microstructural properties of tapes rolled between 600°C and 840°C have been investigated. The effect of the rolling temperature on the current carrying characteristics of Bi(2223) tapes has been determined. The magnetic field and temperature dependence of the critical current density of these tapes has been investigated for fields up to 15T at 4.2K and for fields up to 3T at 77K. A critical current density of 18000 A/cm² at 77K, 0T was measured on tapes rolled at 800°C. The grain alignment has been measured by both transport current measurements and X-ray diffractometry. SEM observations have been performed showing locally better grain alignment and increased oxide density when compared to cold rolled tapes.
