Abstract

Two definitions and three measurement schemes for polarization mode dispersion are presented. Their relations, advantages and drawbacks are discussed. A connection with the dynamical equation for the principal polarization states is made. First results from the COST 241 interlaboratory measurement campaign are also presented.
