Abstract

The polarized light microscope allows identifying minerals and rocks. It requires learning, experience and skill. Much time is spent to search and compare data in books. OpticMin was created to facilitate student's work. Optical properties of about 150 minerals are listed in a computer searchable database, covering more than 90% of rock forming mineral.
