Abstract

The interdisciplinary investigations of the tumulus were carried out in the frame of the Bulgarian–Swiss Project “Sboryanovo: Necropolises and Territory“, with the participation of students from Geneva University and 20 volunteers in the frame of Erasmus Program. The excavations of the tumulus (diam. 15 m, height 0.50 m) were based on the results of the localization of four anomalies by the geophysical prospecting. The 189 m2 were investigated to the depth of 1.30 m (fig. 1).Although no archaeological structures were found in the investigated area, fragments of pottery and amphorae, concentrations of stones and burned clay coat fragments were registered in several places (figs. 2–3). The contradiction between the results of the geophysical and archaeological investigations need further discussion. Most probably, the structures under this small tumulus were totally destroyed during agricultural activities.
