The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) plays a critical role in this dynamic environment by establishing a framework for the stewardship of geospatial data through its Data Sharing and Management Principles. This report explores GEO's principles' theoretical underpinnings and practical applications, focusing on the transformative impact of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), which facilitates global data integration and sharing. We discuss the pivotal role of GEO in promoting Open Science and detail the development and capabilities of the DMP OPIDoR tool, a technology solution designed to facilitate the creation and maintenance of dynamic, machine-actionable Data Management Plans (DMPs). This tool reflects the evolving needs of the Earth observation community, offering an automated, scalable, and user-friendly interface aligned with the FAIR—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—data principles. The anticipated impacts of this innovation include enhanced transparency, efficiency in data management, and the promotion of global collaboration and accessibility in Earth science research. This report underscores the necessity for continuous advancement in data management practices to keep pace with the expanding frontiers of Earth observation data.
