We compare the perceived quality of a collaborative experience in the presence of a dedicated Emotion Awareness Tool (EAT) in two experimental conditions, differing in terms of when and how the emotion sharing happens. 40 study participants were divided into 20 dyads and asked to complete a brainstorming task via Zoom. The first 10 dyads had access to an online EAT throughout the entire duration of the task and they were free to use it as and when they pleased, without any prompting. The other 10 dyads were given access to the tool at a specified moment during the collaboration and were asked to follow specific instructions during its use. We used the Dynamic Emotion Wheel (Fritz, 2015) and a post-test questionnaire to compare the experiences of both groups of dyads; participants were also encouraged to share their feedback during informal debriefing sessions at the end of the experiment. We observed a significant difference regarding the number of emotions shared in both conditions.
