Yet there is still scepticism about its seriousness and about its reality altogether. This incongruence has been hypothesised to be the result of psychological distance. The present work aimed to test whether experiencing the future of climate change in high-immersion technologies could help bridge that distance and increase ecological awareness more so than low-immersion technologies. Accordingly, 60 participants were divided into three groups – those that experienced the future of climate change in virtual reality, those that viewed it on a two-dimensional screen, and those that viewed the present-day in virtual reality. Immersion and New Ecological Paradigm Scale questionnaires were used to test whether higher immersion had a higher impact on ecological beliefs. And, although we did not find significant differences between groups in either, some interesting questions became evident and will be described in the work.
