Previous research suggests that age-related cognitive decline, interoception, and anxiety independently influence PM performance, yet their combined effects and underlying mechanisms remain underexplored. This study examines the association between PM performance, Interoception and Anxiety across younger (M = 21.87, SD = 1.58) and older adults (M = 72.71, SD = 5.93). Participants performed an event-based PM task embedded in a 2-back working memory task. Results indicated significant age-related PM declines, with younger adults outperforming older adults. Contrary to hypotheses, Interoception did not predict PM performance, nor did Anxiety moderate this association. However, older adults with higher anxiety demonstrated poorer PM performance, emphasizing their vulnerability.
