Polarized neutron imaging and grating interferometry for visualization and quantification of magnetic systems

Whereas polarized neutron imaging (PNI) has been introduced about a decade ago, the potential for a wide field of applications is enormous. Parallel, neutron grating interferometry has become versatile non-destructive analyzing tools in soft matter, magnetism and superconductivity. Here, we present methodical developments and comprehensive studies of magnetic systems through imaging techniques based on polarized neutrons. The results can be summarized in two main parts: the design and the applications of the first polarized neutron grating interferometer to study magnetic phenomena, and the combination of PNI and small-angle neutron scattering measurements to investigate the intermediate-mixed-state of a type-II/1 superconductor. The results present another piece to the quest of bridging the gap left between neutron imaging and scattering techniques, making available to researchers a new powerful tool for material science investigations.
