In particular, we focused on the characteristics of emotions and actions, while using the vocal production modality. Participants were tasked to read out pseudowords in an emotional way or in a neutral way to induce a binding between the vocal production and its emotional prosody, in each trial. The expectations were that when the current and previous trials differed only on one characteristic (while sharing the other), a partial repetition cost would arise and induce a weaker binding for the current trial. EEG recordings were studied to contrast partial repetition trials from the other trials on the mu rhythm, which is an indicator for motor preparation. Reaction time, acoustic parameters of the voice and accelerometry were recorded as well and used to differentiate partial repetition trials from other trials, and to highlight patterns of accelerometry and acoustic parameters of the voice dedicated to each emotion. Reaction time analysis shows that the partial repetition cost is indeed observed in this task, revealing that binding occurs and is observable in a task involving more complex actions than the ones usually used in binding studies. This novelty opens the door to more flexible and interesting investigations on the phenomenon.
