The first experiment examined the effects on associative memory retrieval by having subjects encode object-face stimuli on day 1 and tested on day 2. The second experiment examined this stress after the reactivation of day 1. Day 1, subjects learned a list of 20 unrelated objects. Day 2, subjects recalled day 1 for reactivation, then immediately learned a second list of objects. On day 3, they were asked to recall the list from day 1 and we measured the number of intrusions being objects from day 2. For Experiment 1, the results showed there were no significant differences between the cortisol group and the placebo group in performance. For Experiment 2, the results showed there were no difference between the cortisol group and the placebo group in general, but there was an effect of time of day, i.e. 13h00 vs. 15h00.
