Its purpose is to provide translations into English from the three national Swiss languages (German, French, and Italian) free of charge and as “a service to the international community.” The study’s revision methodology is based upon a combination of the following methods: translation critique structure; source text analysis and skopos, legal corpus linguistics, and general principles of restraint in revision. Three major terms are investigated: the designation of the proceedings; the participants to the proceedings; and the phraseology used regarding the threshold for court consideration. Effects of inappropriate translations are also gauged in terms of collocation impact. Proposed revisions are based upon tightly controlled terminology verifiable through Swiss Federal Chancellery resources and international conventions.
