The dissertation is shaped by the main debate to identify the primary target or beneficiary of this education, namely that element or part of the soul that explains the achievements of this training. The standard view identifies the soul’s spirited element as the primary target. This view is rejected: it threatens the psychic integrity of the spirited part in multiple ways. This dissertation argues for the original thesis that this education involves acquiring a rational account or understanding of laws and law-inculcated judgements. If this is correct, then the primary target or beneficiary of ethical training must be the soul’s rational part</p> Dewey 100/501 89 Département de philosophie 3G false 30454707-71d2-4e86-87c1-5f334fee9f92 Thesis Public SALDAnA_these.pdf 1322947 application/pdf d24005a75beb757ea42f7284c2e58714c1af6946385a4e4e529db50fa2c281a8 08cc9bbe-805a-451e-9625-26f66a721ff4 Imprimatur Public SALDAnA_Imprimatur_signe.pdf 49672 application/pdf a6f301698cdabd4ccb1d597b480445f25fbec3b8354285fa37e592383143ee8a openAccess Faculté des lettres / Département de philosophie
