Sign-trackers show stronger approach behavior towards the cue that predicts impending reward, whereas goal-trackers show stronger approach behavior towards the location of reward delivery. In this study, we have demonstrated the existence of such differences in the human population using a Pavlovian conditioning task and an eye-tracking device. We have also explored the extent to which these differences can predict vulnerability to develop impulsivity, compulsivity, and addictive behaviors, using self-reported questionnaires. Even though, we did not find strong correlations between the different conditional responses and diverse traits and behaviors, this study remains a strong basis for future research to better understand interindividual differences and their impact on development of maladaptive behaviors.
