This study investigates how the World Meteorological Organization, in Geneva, utilized its 75th anniversary in 2025 as a strategic window to operationalize three kinds of science communication models. The science communication models, namely dissemination, dialogue, and participation, were analyzed to understand how they targeted both specialized audiences and the lay public. Drawing on the author’s experience as an intern on the WMO 75th anniversary team, this study uses a mixed-methods case study design. The findings demonstrated that different science models co-exist to serve segmented public for different purposes, rather than evolving linearly. Through evaluation of strategic intent and digital audience behaviors findings also showed that WMO successfully engaged with its specialized audiences through empowering “knowledge brokers” for dialogue and integrating youths and early career scientists into agenda participation; while communication strategies remained mostly one-way for lay public.
