As it stands today, the air transport industry accounts for around two and a half percent of the total carbon dioxide output around the globe. To put this into perspective, air travel accounts for 10% of emissions from all types of transportation. However, as the last decade came to a close, both global and aviation emissions increased significantly. Notably, 47% of total aviation CO2 emissions from 1940 to 2019 occurred after 2000, driven by a rise in demand for air travel. As a response to these challenges, the industry is diversifying its mitigation strategies. A key argument regarding Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is its success in reducing lifecycle CO2 emissions, in comparison to conventional kerosene.
